Psalm 104

It’s been a while since I’ve written here because I’ve let life drag me by the hair for the last couple weeks and my priorities have been a little out of order. Just to be transparent, I really struggle reading the Bible, like many others do. So these last couple days, I’ve had to surrender some time in the morning and just let God be God in my life. This morning I was in Psalm 104:33,

“I will sing to the Lord all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”

I didn’t know why this verse struck me this way, but I felt really confused by the phrase, as long as I live. There was a split-second of thinking, “Why all his life?” For a couple minutes, I just sat in silence pondering that verse and the root of my own curious thought.

Then I got it. I sometimes forget that I have the Holy Spirit in addition to my secular spirit! My own spirit is sinful, and it’s not familiar with loyalty and commitment… so that’s why I was so confused about David praising God “as long as I live”. Our lowercase “s” spirit isn’t made to serve God, nor does it even know how to serve God because it is evil and wicked! That is why we receive the Holy Spirit at salvation, to literally be our spiritual yearning inside of us. The Holy Spirit convicts us and teaches us along this path of living and learning who Jesus is in us and for us. Like the Holy Spirit in David promised to praise God as long as he lived, so does the Spirit in US want to!

I hope that today, you will make time to escape away into your Father’s arms. Let your goal and promise to God be that you will sing praises to Him until your life on this Earth has ended. When you meditate on His word, allow your whole being to worship him!
