Proverbs 17: Explore a Page in my Bible

Today we talk about Bible journaling!!! I want to show a page that I have decorated recently, and just explain how and why I do it.

Bible journaling is my way to retain passages of the Bible that I read and study! I’m a super visual learner, so anytime that I have the opportunity to add color and illustrate something, I am able to remember that piece of information.

Decorating in my bible allows me to personalize my spiritual studies, as well as just de-stressing with non formal art. My calligraphy doesn’t have to be perfect and neither do any of the pictures that I draw! I feel no pressure for my Bible to look perfect because it is unique and special to ME. If anyone else were to open up my Bible they might not be able to read through all of the note-ridden margins, or understand the connections that I make from a passage of Scripture to a song or experience. Not everyone learns through color and art, which is totally okay! Bible journaling is just a way for me to study the Word, worship God, practice art, all in ONE!

Today I want to introduce you to a page of my Bible that I recently decked out. Proverbs chapter 17 is full of wisdom and contains a super important verse:

Proverbs 17:17

“A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity”

For this page I used:

  • Random green markers(different shades)
  • A green highlighter for vibrancy
  • A black ballpoint pen(to not smear)
  • Fine-point pen
  • Green note card
  • Washi tape(gray and floral)

I didn’t buy anything, and used random supplies from around my house to create this pretty composition.

I wrote the verse in pencil first, then used my fine-point marker to go over and darken some of the downstrokes. I drew the vine above the verse and used my green markers to make it look multi-toned. I tore the gray tape instead of cutting it to give some character, using the same technique on the notecard to avoid making it look so precise(I just tore the card until it fit on the page). I wrote on the notecard a note to remember when I read the verse and secured it on the page with more washi tape. To finish it off, I layered thin strips of floral tape to add more contrast to the page.

I’m really proud of the way it turned out…not too precise looking–but not too messy either! Studying and journaling the Word gives me so much joy and also motivates me to stay in the Word more! I encourage you to do whatever it is to help you read and study God’s wonderful Word.
